Quarterback due $3 million on first year of free agent signing period Aaron Wilson
The approaching roster bonus for New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady could provide an incentive to accelerate contract talks.
According to ESPN, Brady is due a $3 million roster bonus on March 5, the beginning of the league fiscal year.
Brady is entering the final year of his contract.
Like the Indianapolis Colts and their star quarterback, Peyton Manning, Brady is due a blockbuster contract.
Per the report, Brady could be paid as much as $15 million to $18 million annually.
Instead of paying him the $3 million roster bonus, it would actually make sense for the Patriots to avoid paying that scheduled bonus by drawing up a new contract.
At this point, no deal is imminent.
In the past, Brady has been willing to take less money to try to help the team out from a financial standpoint.

Why do pro sports teams always have to come up with "block buster deals" instead of matching or slightly exceeding top existing contracts. I know the sensationalism makes for great pr but it really seems to shoot holes in the claims of teams losing money or the need for public subsidized stadiums. I love watching the game but the business end seems to be going in the wrong direction.
